SHEIN Review

I've been using Shein for awhile now and feel like its time to review the app, store and products (in general). So, without further ado....

The Shein App

If you're looking for a cheap alternative to Amazon especially for clothes and home decor items (well, actually pretty much everything!), Shein is the place you should be shopping.

I love the Shein app, it's easy to use and super easy to filter content to your preferred buying habits and searches. I like how you can click the main category and then filter the sub categories to search only the items you're really interested in looking at and buying. Even with filtering, sometimes you still have to scroll and scroll and scroll to get to sections that interest you the most.

I do find myself thinking "hmmm... there's a lot of really risky (i.e. provocative) items here" and find it difficult to find clothes that aren't skimpy, see-through, full of holes (the latest trend) or show way too much skin. So, if you're like me, expect to scroll for an eternity to find more realistic outfits to wear. You could opt to pay more for some of the Shein Brand clothing (like MOTF, Romwe, Emery Rose, etc.), but I like cheap and it is literally the only reason why I shop online at Shein!

Speaking of cheap, don't forget to check out their flash sales (happening all the time), you may hit the jack pot and score some sweet items for dirt cheap (like a few cents in some cases!). As well, they always have promotions and additional sales going on all the time, so it's always worth your time to check them out.

Always read customer reviews and look for the following information:

  • Size - Unless more then a handful of customers complain about the sizing (i.e. tell you to size up or size down), the sizes are true to size (exactly the size they say they are), so you really have to pay attention to avoid buying the wrong sizes. Its always best to size up in my opinion.
  • Material - Most of the items are made and shipped from China using cheap material that isn't always comfortable or what you'd expect. So now I always look close up at the pictures, read the customer reviews (esp. complaints), and buy according to what I think will fit and feel comfortable.
  • Real Photos - Always look at customer photos of the items, if anything most items do NOT look anything like their modeled photo (may have same color, but the fit, fabric, etc. is vastly different).
  • Honest Opinions - Customers know what they like and what they don't, so if you're unsure about an item, read their review. In most cases it'll be "omg, I love this, like for points" but ignore those and look for reviews with more substance. The ones that give you a better outline of the item and what they like and don't like about it.

International Shipping (from China)

The only down fall, (and I notice that Canada now has their own store, so maybe this will be better for me), but if you're shopping from the original app, the delivery time can vary from a few weeks to nearly a month (if shipping overseas from China). So definitely don't expect next day delivery if you're an international purchaser! I always shop at least 1 month in advance of whatever it is I'm buying for to ensure it gets to me in time (like holidays, birthdays, summer / winter, etc.). They do have free shipping under certain conditions and on certain days (buy x amount, get free shipping and other offers), so that is a bonus in my eyes. I hate paying for shipping (and tariffs) as an international buyer, so stay away from the express shipping (go standard all the time  - it may be slower, but saves you from having to deal with paying extra for tariffs). Most of my orders have been fully packed and shipped within a day (two at the latest) including on weekends (I usually shop on Sundays).

All in all, I'd say Shein is a great place to shop online for literally anything you need. Just keep in mind, that even though they're trying to make better products, a lot of their current catalog are "dollar store quality" so you do get what you pay for. Hopefully that will change in the future as they expand into more countries!

Swagbucks

I signed up to Swagbucks the other day and wow, there's a LOT to sift through. This is definitely not a user-friendly site for those who are "website challenged". My mom would quit on this site in a heartbeat - and I wouldn't blame her. I'm overwhelmed and I've been using, building and viewing websites for over 15 years. There's just soooo much "stuff" and no clear direction. With that aside, it's basically a site where you earn tokens (or swag bucks) which you can then turn in for prizes / rewards which are mostly in the form of gift cards in the price range of $10-$100 value from shops like Amazon, Foot Locker, iTunes, Facebook and more. I even noticed you can make donations to charities like the Red Cross and UNICEF using swag bucks, which is nice for those of us who lack credit cards for making online donations :) I ended up downloading the Chrome browser extension just because its one of those sites that you literally have to spend...

Jamberry Nail Wrap - Trial Pack

Jamberry Nail wrap on my pinky finger (left), and regular nail polish on all my other digits I received a trial pack of Jamberry nail wraps from an old childhood friend and current Jamberry Consultant ( check her page out here ). My cousin is also a consultant ( view her page here ). I've been tempted to become one myself but was a little hesitant mostly because it looks like a product that's too good to be true. Like all products it has its pros and cons; most of these are in comparison to standard nail polish: Pros:  No smell . I'm highly sensitive to harsh scents, and paint of any kind is one of those things that sets me off. I can't stand the smell of nail polish, especially when it lingers. These wraps, thankfully are odor free! No drying time. Once the wrap is applied you're good to go, no waiting for minutes to hours for the paint to dry. No extra coating. Unlike nail polish you only have to apply one nail wrap to get the benefit of pretty shin...

Notes to Self

As I start my venture into the DIY homemade handcrafted bath and body (cosmetic) business, I find I'm constantly writing down notes only to lose them over time. So just for my own personal reference, I'm cataloging all my fact finding here and intend to grow this list of information over time. This blog post is solely for reference only .
